ISO Open - Glossop & District SC (6th & 7th October 2001)

The weekend starting the 6th of October saw 12 ISO's at Glossop SC. Strong gusty conditions and huge wind shifts over the weekend caused everyone to go over at least once.

Team RWO, Pete Lindley & Jonny Backhouse won the first race convincingly followed by newcomers to the circuit Alan Castleton & Chris Chatterton, then Ian and Katie Keam-George. There were 4 RTD's in this race proving how tricky the conditions were.

The second race started in much the same conditions, Chris Perry determined to beat Charles Chandler and Adam Savages boat wrecking antics, managed to wipe both the mainsail and the boom out in one impressive dive following a capsize. Mike and Dean Lillywhite led this race only to be taken by RWO on the last beat.

Saturday night saw many of the fleet having a few well deserved beers, with the Glossop locals Graham Shaw and John Mather taking everyone to the world famous Harley's (New York, Paris and Glossop). The classy zebra skinned walls particularly impressed us (Thank's Guys).

The wind died down very slightly for the second day but still coming in fairly strong gusts down the lake. Castleton/Chatterton won race 3 followed by Graham Shaw & Steffan Lucas, and Lillywhite/Lillywhite.

Race 4 brought mayhem on the start line with Castleton/Chatterton ramming Shaw/Lucas. Team RWO capsized while in the lead, dropping to third, but managed to recover and take another win by a nose on the line, with the Keam-Georges coming in second and Castleton/Chatterton in third.

Team RWO won the last race followed by Castleton / Chatterton then the Keam-Georges, The Lillywhite's managed to capsize on top of Dave Harrison whilst he was on his center board trying to right his own boat. Thankfully he survived!

Glossop was a great weekend, thanks to the club and volunteers for putting on a great event. It was good to see many new faces at the regatta; hopefully we will see them again at future meetings.
