ISO Gala - Draycote Water SC (23rd & 24th March 2002)

Draycote Water Sailing Club hosted the first ISO circuit event of 2002 over the weekend of 23rd & 24th March.

Racing started just after midday on Saturday in a light and variable breeze that rarely exceeded 5 knots.

Despite the small fleet racing was close with several new faces in attendance.

Ian & Katie Keam-George chose the right side of the first beat in race 1 and sailed into a big lead by the first mark and were never caught. Mike & Andrew Perry took second place after a hard race with circuit rookies Matt Levell and Diana Milne who finished third.

In the second race Levell & Milne took an unassailable lead and left the rest to fight over the remaining places with Team Scouse sailed by Dave & Hazel Harrison taking a worthy second place followed by the Perrys.

Saturday's final race was a much closer affair with the Keam-Georges fighting it out with Levell/Milne for much of the race. It was finally settled at the end of the last beat with the Keam-Georges coming home first from Levell/Milne who were followed by the Perrys.

The wind for Sunday's racing was slightly stronger with some good periods when flat out trapezing upwind was possible.

All three races were closely contested with the Keam-Georges taking firsts in every race. The battle between Levell/Milne and the Harrisons for second and third overall was only settled in favour of Levell in the final race.

The event was well organised by Draycote Water with excellent race management and hospitality, which were appreciated by all the competitors.
