2005 Inlands & Gala - King George SC (22nd & 23rd October)

The last event of the ISO calendar was the Inland Championship held at Datchet Water Sailing Club for the 6th consecutive year. The ISO class is grateful to the organisers at DWSC for stepping in at short notice and the Laser 4000 class for sharing their event due to the original venue being completely without water.

Usually this is a high turnout event although this year saw just 13 boats, despite this there were some welcome new faces, unwelcome old ones and close competition throughout the fleet.

Three races were sailed on Saturday with the scratch combination of Jonny Wells & Graham Sexton in a class of their own scoring three straight wins. It soon became evident that the remaining 12 boats were not in the running for first place.

Ian Moss & Ian Foxwell enjoyed a consistent day as did Pete Lindley and Annie Smith. Both were in with a shout for second place at the end of the days racing.

Sunday racing was delayed due to a lack of wind and eventually kicked off at midday. The breeze remained patchy all day with bands of pressure across the course. The key being to remain in pressure and avoid the Laser 4000 fleet who were making a habit of being over the line to the extent of forcing several general recalls.

Jonny & Graham enjoyed another good day being consistently in the choclates, winning race 1 and virtually guaranteeing the title of Inland Champions. Pete Lindley & Ian Moss were left battling for second place with Pete deploying well worn tactics of trying to push Ian over at the start of the last race when a black flag was flown. Despite this the Ian's went on to claim second overall winning races five and six, Pete & Annie had to settle for third overall.

Thus concluded the season with another eventful and enjoyable meeting, thanks to all concerned with the organisation and the seasons sponsors Cousin-Trestec and RWO for the pro-am prizes.
