ISO Northern Circuit - Tees & Hartlepool SC (24th & 25th July 1999)
The Fourth round of the ISO Northern Travellers' Series took place at Tees and Hartlepool SC over 24-25 July with remarkably close racing over the event seeing all but one of the entrants having a spell as lead boat. Saturday's racing saw strong offshore winds gusting up to force 6. In the first race Andy Rae & Murdo Tolmie sailing "Greig Middleton" headed the field followed closely by local heroes Fred & Tom Murphy who fell over onto the first mark, setting the pattern for the fleet throughout the day. The older heads in the fleet decided to retire to sail another day and watch from the bar. The first day honours were shared by the Murphy brothers and Dearden/Brown, each taking a first place.
Sunday was a light wind day with Grieg Middleton leading from start to finish of race three closely followed by Murphy/Murphy. Race four saw Dearden/Brown swap the lead several times with Graham Shaw and Chris Andrews, who were pipped on the line by the closest of margins. Race five saw Alan and James Padgett hit he front pursued by "Greig Middleton" and Murphy/Murphy. Young Alan suffered gennaker problems allowing "Greig Middleton" to take the race.
