2005 Nationals Re-Run & Gala - Weymouth & Portland SA - (9th & 10th July)

ISO goes Olympic !!

Congratulations to the London Olympic 2012 Team and Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, hosting their first event since the winning announcement. It felt appropriate for the ISO, the first among equals, to be there to rerun the Cousin Trestec sponsored ISO Nationals on 9/10th of July.

The first race waited for the hot sun to drive a force 2 sea breeze across the harbour. Lloyd Walker showed his good light wind speed only to drop back during the race to watch from afar as a close finish between Mike Lillywhite and Andy Gould unfolded, followed by last years champion Ian Keam-George.

Lloyd made the next opportunity count with a second from Andy Gould with Mike Lillywhite third. The third race, with a slight change of course, saw Richard Lewis heading off to the wrong mark, allowing Walker and Gould through, but Lewis managed to recover to take second from Gould, at the expense of letting Walker win.

Race four of the day saw the sea breeze begin to die away but the competition hotting up! Jonny Wells took the race, Walker second and Mike Lyons third, showing that he can also sail an ISO quickly, as well as a Blaze. The end of the first day saw Gould leading Walker by 2 points with Lewis in third.

Day 2 drifted in with a dieing south easterly. Walker and Gould continued their fight for the overall lead with Walker first and Gould second and reigning Champ, Ian Keam-George third.

The sea breeze eventually settled in for race 6 with Lewis and Ladell vying for 1st place. Bob grabbed 4th from the jaws of 2nd by finishing a lap early, taking a few others, including Walker, with him. Read the race board it was 4 laps chaps! Lewis retained the lead leaving Champ Keam-George in second and KGSCs Bell and O'Keefe third.

Going into the final race Walker was leading Gould by one point and managed to extend the lead by taking the final race with Wells second and Gould third. Keam-George managed to do enough to get third overall with Lewis forth.

A highly competitive Nationals race series with many boats holding the lead and good placings for at least part of the time. Far from a procession. Our thanks again to WPSA and hope to see everyone at the Eurocup in Garda 27th to 31st of July.
