2026 Pinnel and Bax

The ISO is now marketed and supplied by Pinnel and Bax. Pinnel and Bax are taking over supply of new ISO-2 hulls as well as all ISO specific replacement parts (spars, foils, space-frame etc.). Pinnell and Bax are a well known and respected sail maker and are developing new P&B sails for the ISO class. An ISO-2 hull sporting the new P&B sails will be on display on the Pinnel and Bax stand at the 2026 RYA dinghy show. During this transition phase Vantage sailing will continue to support the ISO class by supplying ISO specific components.

The new ISO-2 hull, introduced in 2024 is constructed using epoxy glass-fibre stiffened in high-load areas which has resulted in a lighter, more responsive hull. The ISO-2 hull is approximately 30 kg lighter than the original ISO hulls. A hull-only option is offered so that existing owners can transfer spars and foils from an old ISO to obtain a very competitive boat at an affordable price.

The 2026 ISO race circuit will be sponsored by Pinnel and Bax and we expect to continue to pair up with other classes such as the 4000 fleet to offer exciting racing and fun socials at some great venues. The list of events is still being finalised but it looks like the nationals will be at Lymington. For the Europeans we will join the large Italian ISO fleet on Lake Como. The ISO Class association is excited to announce that Ginger Boats Racing Ltd is the new builder of ISO hulls. Ginger Boats is already the builder of several boats in the RS range, as well as Flying Fifteens, Merlin Rockets, Solo and Mirror dinghies.

The Ginger Boats, ISO-2 hull is on display at the RYA dinghy show. The new hull is constructed using epoxy glass-fibre and has been stiffened in high-load areas. The ISO-2 hull is approximately 30 kg lighter than the original ISO hulls and is expected to be very competitive compared to existing boats in the ISO fleet. A hull-only option will be offered so that existing owners can transfer the spars and foils across from their ISO-1 to obtain a very competitive boat at an affordable price.
Vantage sailing continue to provide fantastic support to the ISO class in supplying sails, spars, foils and other components.

Joining the ISO Class Association at this important stage would mean that you have the opportunity to help shape how the class progresses – for example, should the class allow new, lighter foils, and lighter wings to be made and used? How should the rules be adapted to accommodate both ISO-1 and ISO-2 boats. The ISO Class Association would love to hear your thoughts on this – you would be joining a friendly group of experienced sailors and your views would really count.

ISO Characteristics

All-rounder - Hull characteristics suit skiff/asymmetric open events as well as club level, round the cans racing. Hull design is good for inland waters but also works well in a sea/waves.

Adaptable - Wide range of age, weight, gender options are competitive. Flexible rules regarding position of controls, and ISO-2 _fitting areas_ allows different helm/crew role allocations. (e.g. gennaker can be rigged for hoisting by crew or helm and either automatic or manual pole launch).

Affordable - new ISO-2 boats are competitively priced. Good second hand boats are available for under £1000

Robust - Hulls are built to last and remain competitive. Early boats from 1990s are still racing. ISO-2 Epoxy hull is even stronger/stiffer.

Maintainable - Pinnel and Bax are taking over supply for the ISO class. Class specific parts are supplied by Vantage Sailing which has strong ties to the class. Supply will transition to Pinnel and Bax as they take over support for the class. The ISO Class association ensures continuing supply of boats and parts. Major brands Pinnel and Bax, Ronstan, Super Spars, English Braids are supporting the new ISO-2 initiative.

ISO in Y&Y - biggest grin factor ever !

It's now November with a terrific sunny day after a rather miserable October. The Y&Y December edition has just landed on the mat delightfully distracting away from the day job.

Turned through to the Racing Classes section, having admired the Oracle AC72 - if you've got to break something do it style !! Note the Spider Man pic on the last page too !!

The numbers table makes for some dim reading for sailing overall having declining numbers, with notable exceptions. So whilst our event attendance isn't what it was, we can at least be encouraged by the fact that so many other classes have reduced numbers too. The message - it isn't us and it isn't the boat. Even the RS200 has halved its numbers.
